Can someone help me figure out if this is an identity?

@tinybookworm

OpenStudy (welshfella):

cos x + sin x tan x = cos x + (sin x * sin x0 / cos x = cos x + sin^2 x / cos x = (cos^x + sin^2 x )/ cos x Now sin^2 x + cos ^ 2 x = 1 so we have 1 /cos x = sec x yes this is an identity

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ok?

OpenStudy (kkbrookly):

Thank you! Can you help me with one more?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

let s = sin x and c = cos x (c -s)^2 + ( c +s)^2 = c^2 + s^2 -cs + c^2 + s^2 + cs but c^2 + s^2 = 1 so we have 1 - cs + 1 + cs = 2

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ok?

OpenStudy (kkbrookly):

Thank you so much! I understand now
