OpenStudy (shelld93):

An object moves in a straight line and is speeding up. Which one of the following statements is true? There are no forces acting on the object. Friction cannot be acting on the object. The net force on the object is in the direction of motion. The object is moving due to forces acting on it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess the true statement is "The net force on the object is in the direction of motion." Since the particle is speeding up while moving in a straight line, the force has to be acting in the direction of motion. If there is no force or a constant force, there is no acceleration or constant acceleration. Since the body is speeding up, the force has to be in direction of motion.

OpenStudy (shamim):

I think the above answer is correct bt explanation is wrong!!!!!!

OpenStudy (shamim):

U know newton's second law of motion is F=ma

OpenStudy (shamim):

If force F=0 0=ma a=0/m a=0 There is no force , there is no acceleration

OpenStudy (shamim):

Ur object is speeding up! Right?

OpenStudy (shamim):

So ur body has acceleration

OpenStudy (shamim):

So acceleration a is not zero

OpenStudy (shamim):

C my equation F=ma If a is not zero , F can not b zero

OpenStudy (shamim):

Nd frm my equation the direction of F is along the direction of a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i said, u just explained it in equations

OpenStudy (shamim):

Feel free to ask for more clarification!!!!!

OpenStudy (shelld93):

Thank you! Physics isn't my best subject !
