the imperialist policies of European nations in the 19th century were not driven simply by a desire to be powerful and hold land, but by a combination of a wide range of forces. the Industrial Revolutions that swept across Europe in the 19th century was a major factor in the acceleration of European imperialism. industries required vast quantities of imported raw materials that could not be grown or produced in Europe. j
