Light traveling though air strikes the surface of the four different materials shown. Which material reflects light but does not refract it? A. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1141000_1141500/1141134/1/5fed6507302499e086ce391cb87a9a8662f6696e/MS2_PHY_07_06_diamond.jpg B. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1141000_1141500/1141139/1/af2bd848cadda2964c78701b44312f05832ebbdf/MS2_PHY_07_06_Splash_of_water.jpg C. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1141000_1141500/1141137/1/8947bebd9819163958d22c8c268b47806fe7c606/MS2_PHY_07_06_Prism.jpg D. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1141000_1141500/1141140/1/bec35e41613f370d5cf470f8efcaf5c0c041859e/MS2_PHY_07_06_spoons.jpg

i got this

OpenStudy (javalos01):

i think

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I believe it is B

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Because all the other objects, diamond, prism, and spoon, refract light-waves as they hit or pass through the object

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you absolutely positive?

OpenStudy (javalos01):

yea its b

OpenStudy (javalos01):

i was gonna say that

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Wait, is the fourth picture about the tree? Or the snow? Because I believe snow refracts light

OpenStudy (javalos01):

no not retricemuch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK. Thanks guys.

OpenStudy (dan815):

its D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And this picture is water. Not a tree or snow.

OpenStudy (javalos01):

yea its d cause the snows crystals reflect light

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

D D D D D!!! MORE REFLECTION ..LESS TRANSMITTED!..lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay... I am going with D.

OpenStudy (javalos01):

d

OpenStudy (javalos01):

lets all give each other medals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you to all! I have three more questions... Can you help/check those too?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I'll try and help ^_^

OpenStudy (dan815):

refraction occurs when the surfaces are semipermeable to light, With the spoons the light can only be reflected because the light cannot pass through the spoon so there is no chance for refraction which occurs due to the minimization of time taken to get from point A to B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for your explanation! Very helpful. :)

OpenStudy (dan815):

: >

OpenStudy (dan815):

I can tell you more if you are interested

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any information is accepted. :)

OpenStudy (dan815):

Well you see refraction is happening first and foremost because light travels at different speeds in different materials

OpenStudy (dan815):

So if there is a surface that light can pass through it will try to minimize the time it takes to complete its path

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By the way, I posted the next question.
