the width, w, of a rectangular garden is x - 2. The area of the garden is x^3 - 2x -4. What is an expression for the length of the garden? a. x^2 - 2x - 2 b. x^2 + 2x - 2 c. x^2 - 2x + 2 d. x^2 + 2x + 2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

easiest thing is some polynomial or synthetic division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to do that.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... the the only thing to do is the multiplying x - 2 by each of the answer options to get the area equation so it can be done as \[x( x^2 - 2x - 2) - 2(x^2 - 2x -2) \] which gives \[x^3 - 4x^2 .... \] so its not A juest repeat the process
