I'll explain. Technically, 7 is 7 wholes. So find 7 wholes with 9 as a denominator. This is easily found by multiplying 7 and 9 7 x 9 = 63 Now add what was originally the numerator and you have your answer.

turning mixed numbers into improper fractions 7 5/9.....take your whole number (7) and multiply it by your denominator (9)...then add that to your numerator (5)....then put that number over your original denominator. So we have (7 x 9 + 5) / 9 = 68/9....and if you can reduce this number, then do so....but in this case, it does not reduce.
