This is not a question its just something of interest I found out this afternoon when I visited a church in Tenby South Wales UK. There was a plaque commemorating the life of a Tenby man called Robert Recorde born in the 16th century. He was a physician and mathematician who was in later life a physician to the King and Queen of England. He invented the equal sign and also introduced the plus sign to the English speaking world.

I expect there is an article on Wickepoedia about him.
If any of you go to the UK at some time Tenby is a place to visit. It has some of the most beautiful bays in Europe and often wins the UK annual prize for floral decoration.
