Please help! need to know process!! will give medal!! (: 3. Factor completely 3x - 12. 3(x − 4) 3(x + 4) 3x(−12) Prime

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

What can you factor out of \(\sf3x-12\) ?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Hint, if you want you can start with the answer choices. If you do, use this to see if it expands to \(\sf3x-12\) \(\sf\large a(b-c) = ab-ac\)

OpenStudy (daltonw):

eh um... okay! i guess i can try that!! (: i have no idea what i am doing!!

OpenStudy (daltonw):

this is my first time with a problem like this!!

OpenStudy (daltonw):

however if i factor this i get... 3

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

what goes into 3x and -12?

OpenStudy (daltonw):

the greatest common factor is 3

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

correct if we take 3 out of 3x we are left with x if we take 3 out of -12 we are left with -4 so 3 goes outsdie of the parentheses and what is left goes inside the parentheses

OpenStudy (daltonw):

okay!! that helps! then what do you do?? (:

OpenStudy (daltonw):

is the answer something like this?\[3x(x-4)\]

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

no x outside other than that u are correct :)

OpenStudy (daltonw):
