Well think of a cone which all have the same shape of a pyramid with a circular base now if a plane cut that cone perpendicular to it circular base, perpendicular mean across or forming a ninty degree angle than that would me you are cutting to cone downward and vertically, not from side to side so circle and ellipse cant be correct because those are only made with horizontal cuts, the shape you would get as a result would be a parabola
