OpenStudy (rebeleco518):

Please help for medal Q1- A set of equations is given below:  Equation H: y = −x + 2  Equation J: y = 3x − 4  Which of the following steps can be used to find the solution to the set of equations?  −x = 3x − 4   −x +2 = 3x  −x + 2 = 3x − 4  −x + 1 = 3x + 2

heyo!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so do you know the steps to solving a system of equations?

OpenStudy (rebeleco518):

I know them, but don't quite understand them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how are you used to solving these? There are two ways.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It looks like for this one it would be easier to cancel out

OpenStudy (rebeleco518):

These are the steps I learned- Substitution Method Step 1: Isolate one variable in one equation. Step 2: Substitute the expression from one equation into the other equation.  Step 3: Solve for the unknown variable.  Step 4: Substitute the value that you just found into one of the original equations to find the other variable.  Step 5: Check your work on both equations using substitution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so one is already 3x so you would multiply the entire first equation by three so the other first term is -3x and it cancels out because 3x - 3x = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here one second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y = −3x + 6\]\[ y = 3x −4 \]\[y=2\]

OpenStudy (rebeleco518):

Ok, I see what you did now

OpenStudy (rebeleco518):

so how do I figure out which answer @~hellooo
