Which sentence contains an error of agreement? a. The water was clear, blue, and beautiful. b. At first I stepped over the garbage on the street, but then I went back and picked it up. c. Pilots spend many years of their lives in training. d. He don't know what he's talking about.
Well which one sounds a bit odd to you?
Let's look at A. Water is only one thing right? So the verb for water is what? Was or were?
Was
It's obviously D. "don't" should be doesn't or does not. The sentence should read, "He does not know what he is talking about." At least, D. would be the answer if the question is Which sentence contains an error of grammar, I am not totally sure what it is asking for about agreement.
Indeed. So A wouldn't be it, because it agrees. What about B? Garbage is one thing correct? So it or them?
Verb agreement is probably what they mean.
It
Yep. Now C, pilots is more than one thing, so spend or spends?
Spend I think
Yeppity! So D. He is only one thing, so would it be do or does?
Does
So the answer is d
Indeed Good job
