Why doesn't OpenStudy get rid of the chats? reasons: cyber bullying cursing rude name calling no point in chat cause no one ever asks questions
The first three reasons can also happen on posts. And they do happen on posts. The fourth reason: People want help so they post the question link in the chats. People in the chats see it and go to the question. Faster help. :) You may want to support the idea of specific chat mods. @endlesslight254
good reasoning but even people that ask for help thre chat never gets the help they ask for there might be less bully on this website if openstudy kept private messaging
threw*
I have seen it many times. When someone posts a link in the chats then at least two people click it.
Did you mean through?
yeah haha i just read a conversation from the biology chat and this young lady was being very hurt full for no reason whats oh ever which someone got offened and started fighting back i could understand if they just ignored that person but most people are to hot headed and take hurtful word very seriously

It should be: "Why doesn't OpenStudy get rid of the chats."
Before it was "Why does OpenStudy get rid of the chats."
im just stating this cause most kid have horrible lives and even though its from people they dont know they keep be seeking help from friends on here and someone come into the chat and start stating bad thing about that person
could not keep XD
I know how it feels when someone makes mean comments.
same with me thats why i think the cyber bulling should be dealt with or chat should be shut down
If you see any bullying then try reporting it. If nothing happens then message a mod and tell the mod your issue.
reporting doesnt ever seem to work the user gets a warning first but is never banned and the same person has the ability to make another account if the first one is banned
Mods can ip ban a user.
I was "bullied" like a minute ago, and it doesn't bother me.
Keep reporting anything you find to be violating the code of conduct.
their is a user in biology who has a banned profile but made a new one
eclipsed bully may not bother some people but it bothers other people to
Just ignore it. Bullies fuel up when they find someone actually getting annoyed by them.
There are always inappropriate chats going on which is not right but it does help people post and answer questions faster.
Most mods take bullying very seriously. If you see bullying going on, report, and in the comment box, put why you are reporting, put what the person said, and put which chat it's in
Will do but there is also fowl language, should i report that also?
yes, do the same thing, reason, chat message and chat
Thanks :)
no problem :) anything that is against the CoC or TaC is reportable
i agree
what if reporting doesnt work and they keep bullying after the ban timer is up
Possibly report the user once again?
but why why not keep them banned
Well, I understood that when someone is banned, they can't come back...
So, you could possibly speak to a moderator about it again.
they cant come back for three days but if they were banned again would they even stay banned or just get a long banned time
I do not understand what you are trying to say.
ok let say a person gets banned once for bullying or bad language they are only banned for a short time before they get back on but what if they do the same thing again and get banned when they come back they will only continue
Well, if they continue, then maybe the moderators will ban for months or possibly do an IP Ban. Then they cannot come back.
Mods cannot ip ban.
\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @confluxepic Mods can ip ban a user. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\)
Only admins can, and they have to have a very good reason to do so.
Conflux smh :P
Can they or can they not?
Administrators. Not moderators.
Okay, then perhaps an admin can ban the user.
It is very simple to get around an IP ban
^
o_o Really?
and a moderator suspension acts as a temporary IP ban
Yep
ok what if they dont get rid of chat but put more restraint on it like block out curse words or modator the chats every once in a while
So if someone is bullying you just block and ignore/
Yes, I was going to say that. ^
There is already a cuss word filter so...
most people dont block people cause their either fighting back or leave and do nothing about it
i was just looking at a chat and it didnt seem like there was a cuss word filter on
I get blocked by people I tell to follow the CoC and I have no problem whatsoever from that.
There is a filter, but of course, there are ways to get around it
Yes. I just saw a very inappropriate message on the math chat. ._.
So...just ignore. Let the mods do their jobs, we don't need to interfere once it gets out of hand.
i still think chat should either be watched or atleast just make it where only questions could be asked people will still have private message
Some people and I have suggested getting rid of the chats altogether, but that just ended in protests by those who only come to os to chitchat.
ive already guessed that i think openstudy only keeps chat for the people cause without people the website would get shut down from being unused
I do see the chats as useful because new users find their way around on how to use os, but if more people are going to leave because of the chats... :/
but thats why they have openstudy feedback for new users to ask questions that arnt related to math or biology
Not all users know that there is an OS Feedback section.
