How did new technology change the way war was fought?

Well, war became more stagnant. With the use of trenches, troops hid out below ground level and could not move around much. It made war much more bloody, with the use of new machine guns and tanks. Explosives were also thrown into trenches. So all in all, I would say technology turned war into more of a defensive strategy rather than offensive. I hope this makes sense, it's kind of hard to explain!
