Well, from my recollection, he's a quiet young man that traveled to New York to learn the bond business. He lives next door to Gatsby. Nick is also Daisy’s cousin, which is how he observes and assists in the affair between Daisy and Gatsby. He's very conflicted about what kind of lifestyle he prefers- a fast-paced, hectic life on the East Coast, or a quieter, simpler life in a smaller town. He later realizes that the kind of life Gatsby lead was damaging and empty, and prefers to move back to a quiet town with higher moral standards.
