What happens to the enzyme and the substrate during a chemical reaction?

OpenStudy (leonardo0430):

In biochemistry, the substrate is a molecule upon which an enzyme acts. Enzymes catalyze chemical reactions involving the substrate(s). In the case of a single substrate, the substrate bonds with the enzyme active site, and an enzyme-substrate complex is formed. they basically connect to form into proteins, pretend enzymes are like a key, and the substrate are a lock, the key opens only specific locks (substrates)
