Hoping someone who's good with statistics can check to see if I solved these problems correctly..
Q1. Find the z-value that corresponds to the given area: The picture shows a curve with 0.4925 shaded in, so I solved by 0.5 - 0.4925 = 0.0075; I found the z-score to be -2.43
Q2. The average number of wpm that a reading class can read is 175, with a standard deviation of 20 wpm. The bottom 5% of the class has to retake the course. How many wpm would a person have to read in order to retake the class?
I found the z-score corresponding to 0.05, which is -2.68, then: 175 - 2.68(20) = 121.4
