You have a bunch of quarters and dimes but you don't know how many. You do know that the toal comes out to be $14.85. You also know that there are 2 times as many dimes as there are quarters. How many of each do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the equation would be (.25x + .2x = 14.85)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok awesome! Where do I go from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply both sides by 100 to get rid of the decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should get 45x=1485

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= 33

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, then you use the x value to determine the number of coins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, 33 quarters and 66 dimes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since there is twice as many dimes

THANK YOU
