I am on the side that also wants to deal with security but would provide a path to citizenship for most, though not all, of those illegally in our country. I agree with senators like John McCain who want to deal with both legalization and security. This is the better way to go because we’re not going to deport 12 million people. It’s a much better choice for America, especially people who were born here, to make illegal aliens rights-bearing citizens.

Never say things like that. Tell us ABOUT what side you are on. Be more dramatic. This is a boring opening.

Security vs. Citizenship. Are they really contradictory? Illegal immigrant or "...homeless, tempest-tost" [sic]. Is there a difference? John McCain thinks we can have legalization AND security. As Mr. McCain is from a border state, his opinion resounds in my ears.

You're doing it again. The matter is NOT settled and you are speaking as if it is settled. Bill Maher is one of the worst at this behavior. He always speaks as if the answer is obvious - directly opposed to the fact that the answer is not obvious.

You have suggested no reason at all why it is better for America. You went to the trouble to emphasize natural-born citizens, but offered no evidence of that.

What points will you be making? Capsulize them in to this thesis statement.
Hold your audience. Don't just talk to them. Many people attempt to use histrionics for this. Resist the temptation. Drama is good.
