People fan you as a thank you for your help or because they would like to be your friend. Having more fans increases your SmartScore, too. If you were to fan someone, then you would be notified when they are online/offline.

If you want to raise your SmartScore, you should help out people, it's pretty much the fastest way to increase your SmartScore.

Gaining a fan doesn't directly increase your SmartScore from 61 to 62, rather it raises the subscore called Teamwork. :)

@BlossomCake It's possible, if you're really close to 62 and someone fans you, you most likely will have your SmartScore raised to 62.
