Which of the following was the question at the heart of the brown v. board of education case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Should separate schools be integrated to achieve diversity among students? B. Do separate schools based on race deprive minority children of rights? C. Are districts that use "freedom of choice" plans achieving integration? D. Is busing students to distant schools appropriate for desegregation?

OpenStudy (ciaraxcx):

Brown was not allowed to go to a certain school because of here skin color. In court, the jury's decision was that "We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. . ." So if I rule out that is was not A, because the diversity wasn't the main problem, what answer can you conclude?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is D. is busing students to distant schools appropriate for desegregation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is B.

Can someone check my answer?

OpenStudy (ciaraxcx):

You are right, it is B. If you read on this website, it shows you the arguments made and the final decision. The argument was that segregated schools are unequal and do not grant minorities an equal opportunity. http://www.infoplease.com/us/supreme-court/cases/ar04.html D is wrong, because the matter of busing famously belongs to Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education case.

Thank you! I didn't think D was right, and I don't like it when people just give me the answer with no explanation. I will give you a medal. Thanks again! :)
