discriminant = b^2 - 4ac the a , b and c are the coefficients in ax^2 + bx + c
so for your equation a = -4
the sign of the discriminant ( or if = 0) will tell you about the nature of the x-intercepts
- and number of intercepts of course
If discriminant > 0 there are 2 intercepts = 0 there is only one < 0 there are no intercepts
