Please help! A building has a window that is 12 feet high. Stan is going to use a ladder to get up to the window and decides to keep the ladder 5 feet away from the side of the building. How long does the ladder need to be?

This is a right triangle. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 the 2 sides are 12 and 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would use the Pythagorean Theorem. a squared + b squared = c squared. Where the ladder's height is c and 5 and 12 are a and b
