OpenStudy (crazypizzalover):

What would be a probable explanation for why there are many endemic plants and birds in New Zealand, but no native mammals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Species of plants and birds can cross over from other continents, but mammals could not because New Zealand is isolated from other countries. Birds and plants can cross over to isolated countries because birds can fly over and plants somehow cross over too (confused about that but that's what I was taught.)
