Which scatter plot best represents the function f(x) = 3^x + 1? Plot A: http://prntscr.com/6zpvs8 Plot B: http://prntscr.com/6zpwti Plot C: http://prntscr.com/6zpwyz Plot D: http://prntscr.com/6zpx3i

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Do you have any ideas?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Not at all.

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

first plug in 0 for x and see what y is so we can eliminate some choices

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

That would be of help, if I knew how to find y once x = 0

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

When the exponent, or x, equals zero, the zero rule states the value of the coefficient automagically becomes one. So, when x = 0, y = 1 + 1

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Does it remain y = 1 + 1 or would it then become y = 2?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

It would be simplified to y = 2 ^_^

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

So, the correct graph would have y = 2 when x = 0 That eliminates B and C, I believe.

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Yep, it does eliminate B and C. Now, when x = 2, y = 3^2 + 1. Could you simplify that?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

3 to the second power would be equal to 9, if I remember correctly. Plus 1 would be 10. So, y = 10 when x = 2?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Yep. So then you can rule out one more answer choice

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

yes so now we are only left with one grpah that has the points (0,2) and (2,10) which answer choice is that?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

D seems to be wrong, because it has (2, 5). At least, it looks like that.

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

D is in fact incorrect

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

So the answer would be A.

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Correctumundo ^_^

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

yes :)

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Thanks, both of you :)

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Anytime ^_^
