The function f(x) is shown below: f(x) = (2)x+1 The function f(x) is shifted to the left by 13 units. Which of the following best represents the new function? f(x) = (2)x + 13 f(x) = (2)x + 14 f(x) = (2)x -12 f(x) = (2)x - 13

if you want to shift to the left, you add. 1+13=14 so the answer is the second one.

If you have the time can you write it out? Thank you anyway :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you just want me to write out the answer? Or how I got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How you got it, if you can :)

Well if you add on to the value at the end, the "B", but don't increase the integer next to the x, the equation will go further up. Since the slope is the same, the slope won't hit the Y value until further to the left along the X-intercept. Go to https://www.desmos.com/calculator and put in "2x+1' on the first one and "2x+14" on the second. You'll be able to see why it shifts left.
