How to deal with Cyber Bullying on Openstudy. By: @thesmartone , @pooja195 , and @confluxepic

pooja195 (pooja195):

\(\tt\huge\color{Orange}{ How~to~deal~with~Cyberbullying.}\) \(\tt\Large\color{red}{What~is~Cyberbullying?}\) Cyberbullying is bullying people over the internet to intentionally hurt their feelings. \(\tt\Large\color{blue}{What~should~you~do~when~you~getting~bullied?}\) There are three things to do if you get bullied on OpenStudy! \(\bullet\)BLOCK! \(\bullet\)REPORT! \(\bullet\)IGNORE! This is what you should do. However, also stick up for yourself. Make sure to do it in a constructive way and not in a way in which it may cause more negativity. Also make sure to tell someone about it! Whether it be a moderator or ambassador or even your parents! Ask them for advice! \(\tt\Large\color{green}{How~to~respond~to~bullies?}\) Ignore their comments and start saying things that are positive. Don’t let them know that you were affected by their words emotionally. Bullies fuel up from your annoyance and anger. Once they find out that you are being affected by them they will keep attacking you. That’s why it’s best to act as if you don’t care about their words. For example… \(\sf Bully\): Hey kid, you're fat. Get out of this chat, no one likes you. Hit the logout button in the corner. No one wants you around. \(\sf Victim\): Hahaha! Nice one :) Eh, but I like the sign in button more :P \(\tt\Large\color{red}{Ways~to~ignore~them.}\) -Well, since the first step is to block them, they should not be able to contact you through messages.. -If you see them in chat, then act as if they are not even there. Go to another chat if you don’t want to see them. :-) \(\tt\Large\color{blue}{Who~to~tell}\) If you see someone being bullied, stick up for them! If not simply report it and contact a moderator (they are the users with a purple name) or an ambassador (users with \(\color{#872AF0}{Ⓐ}\)). Whatever you do, try your best to \(\color{red}{NOT}\) be a bystander. Try to stop or minimize the bullying. Stand up for your fellow users! \(\tt\Large\color{green}{So~what's~the~OpenStudy~bully~project?}\) So now that you know how dangerous cyberbullying is, here is the task. Your task is to write words of kindness to the users of OpenStudy. ) There are a few ways you can do that. You can message them, you can tell them in the chats, and you can even write them a testimonial. Let people know that they are doing a good job! If you see a new user that you don’t know, just be kind and welcoming. Do not ignore them. Make sure to share this with your fellow OpenStudiers. :) Let’s end bullying together for once and for all! \(\Large\ddot\smile\)

All your advice can apply to real life bullying as well :) And I love the bully project. Good job!

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Block could mean staying away or avoiding the bullies. @dtan5457

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 Or simply asking a 99 user might do the trick. We are all experienced users who agree that bullying has become quite an issue. @Joel_the_boss Has defended me and even taught me that no matter what the situation is, do not fight back, that is only fueling there motivation and will make them continue the problem. Bullying is not cool and will NOT be tolerated on this site. I love this post @pooja195 Amazing work. :)

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@pooja195 and the team Absolutely superb advice filled with examples and situations. First time I see positive and concrete instructions like these. Great job!

Hes a good kid talk to him about this im 100% sure he will make you feel better :)

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Here's a little from my life: While being in 7th grade, I was bullied bad. And I mean hardcore bullied to the max. It got to the point where I wish life would not take me the way I was going. I wished at that point that I could be living a life that I've always dreamed of. Apparently everything was going the wrong way. Everything was messed up and disappointing in my life. I just felt like cutting myself(obviously I did, but not much), that didn't help at all. It got worse and painful. The next step in my head, was to just commit suicide. It got the climax or point where I just really wanted to kill myself and show it to the ones what they have done to me, and what happens when you get bullied. It was plain ridiculous. There was no there to help me at all. I never told any of my parents neither my best friends. I've been asked by many, why I had blood on my arms, I always lied just to get over it and move on with life. I honestly don't recommend anyone cutting or committing suicide. I'd hate for people to be in the situation I was. Some of you, may be wondering, how this all stopped. Yes, I cried many times myself to sleep and that helped a little. What has stopped me? My best friend that came 2 or three months later. He was the best, and he's the reason why I'm still alive. SIDE NOTE FOR THE AMAZING GUYS: Guys, really. You guys are amazing, and without you, I would've not been here. But by someone's great love, I'm alive!<333 I love you guys!

pooja195 (pooja195):

We love you too my banana :*

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I also tried committing suicide...not worth it. I went through more pain from bullying and suffering emotionally, and my psychologist helped out. It was hard getting rid of negative thoughts but I pulled through.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes, it's sad that only less than half of the people live through it. The rest just die out, painfully.

pooja195 (pooja195):

I am against bullying because i got bullied alot in 4th grade i was called fat and i was pushed around by people it was horrible and i had no one there for me in 5th grade the same bullies kept doing it then when i got to 7th grade i had enough i went to the social worker at school and got help. I was also cyber bullied on OpenStudy by a person (no names mentioned) Since then i have hated seeing anyone get bullied and i will assure you if i see it i will bring justice to you and make sure something gets done! If its in real life TALK TO SOMEONE! The consequences of bullying are terrbile just like yana i also self harmed but that can be prevented if you would just talk to someone T_T So please if you are gtting bullied TELL SOMEONE!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once I wanted to commit sucide to but then I found someone who was worth living for

pooja195 (pooja195):

:O thats amazing and im glad you are still here :)

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

That was a mistake I made in freshman year. I didn't seek out anyone to talk to (because I was socially awkward). I felt like a tea kettle hissing and ready to burst and I finally did burst out in frustration and had negative thoughts on everything (I even ran away from home, upset and dejected).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once I ran away from home the excet sam reason

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Telling someone isn't always a way to get out of it. Some just keep it secretly so parents won't find out. That's another problem too. The solution out of it, is a challenge for some.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

^ It was a huge challenge for me.

pooja195 (pooja195):

@YanaSidlinskiy telling someone is the right thing to do

pooja195 (pooja195):

I know its hard but still

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

It is the right thing to do, but you can force them. It's the persons choice.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

*can't

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I ended up going to a "mental hospital" for suicidal teens. I actually felt welcomed there because people actually related to me and had the same problems as me. That's how I opened up and got comfort from people my age.

pooja195 (pooja195):

Im not forcing anyone :P just saying...

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

It wasn't actually bad there. It was a nice place.

pooja195 (pooja195):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eclisped you and me are twins mental hospital was accturally the best time of my life except a bully saying it racist for drawing my international flag

pooja195 (pooja195):

=) well im happy we are finding similarities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm, maybe put beside "What should you do when you get bullied" something like this, "OR see someone else get bullied,"

pooja195 (pooja195):

hmmm cant change it now :P

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Well if you see someone getting bullied don't hesitate to step in. Two people is better against one bully.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DUDE, you can edit it -_- just a helpful suggestion!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember when we were watching Aurthor and i said yeah Aurthor and the bully said why you like this little baby show one of the guys said some of the shows are accturaly good and the bully shut up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

pooja195 (pooja195):

@Great_And_Powerful im not dumb :P You cant edit comments .-.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Great_And_Powerful DUDE, you can edit it -_- just a helpful suggestion!! \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Edit? Oh and who were you talking to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O.O IM SOOO SORRY :'( I THOUGHT IT WAS IN THE POST!!! My gawd my attitude sucks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Another method, Message iambatman Iambatman takes out his banarang, and targets bully, and they are gone forever and ever.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yah, and I hate the tongue thing, main reason why i got mad, makes me feel stupid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:P I don't like it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This lil baby is smart ( @pooja195 )

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Batman's way works 150% of the time! It's deadly accurate. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and ask me if someone bulling you I'll help

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

The many methods i have used to prevent bullying, and sometimes even completely convert a bully, often bully's don't realize there doing wrong, or is a good person acting tough. Here are some methods iv'e used to stop a bully, a lot of these i do NOT recommend. ~I once saw a kid getting beat up in the corner, i stood up for him, i was younger then either of them... but this was back when i was active and fit, and very strong for my age. i went over there, and stopped them both, i eventually (note i was younger... a lot younger... and only cared about helping other people, even if it was a VERY drastic method) Beat up the bully, his friends decided to intervene and shortly i had 7 6th graders piled up on top of me (also note, this was at a school gymnasium in the middle of nowhere... unfortunately we had no teachers on duty watching recess) well, i got angry... and i had a brief moment i felt like hulk and just jumped up and swung out my arms knocking them off of me and having a all out brawl vs 8 6th graders while i was only in 2nd grade... I Regret doing this back then, and i have for a very long time... because i could have done much less... this is partially why i'm known as hulk. ~I saw a kid getting beat up, this time he was my friend, and i was in 4th grade, the bully being in 5th. I stopped them, i just put one hand on him and held him back and told my friend to go get a teacher, well... as a result even though there was no violence... the bully got of Scott free and i was suspended for a week. now I've done this well over 20 times... i do not recommend this method either. ~One time i caught myself being the bully... i was going berserk it was like i was outside my own body, watching myself rampaging hurting my friends and assorted people. This is not relevant but there is an important life lesson in this, do not let yourself lose control, and always try to stay level headed. ~Sometimes i was the victim of bullying, lets give some examples on this one... sometimes i would get bullied by my own teacher, one of my teachers didn't like me, so they kept trying to get me in special education... i only did one thing... and that was speak without raising my hand, and just because i have autism ADHD and ODD i was forced to go to special education even though it was not needed... and i was in perfect control of myself. I had this one teacher nicknamed TJ, well... one time he tackled me to the ground and beat me up giving me several bruises... just because i didn't want to cross my arms due to the fact i thought it made me look angry, and because i normally have a frown on with my eyebrows naturally in a position that made me look angry, that was the last thing i needed because i would look more unfriendly then i already did, i ended up getting suspended for 2 weeks JUST FOR THAT! my teacher truly hated me and loved seeing me hurt... one time i was tired of the abuse, and because nobody would believe me because i'm just a child and hes the adult, and i was in special education so he was legally allowed to if its needed... well it wasn't needed for me EVER... and to be physically abused by my own teacher is unreal... i would have some moment of intense hatred of him... due to the way he pinned me all the time, i couldn't do anything, i had the strength to get out and do something... if it wasn't for the fact of the way he was doing it and constantly hitting on me. no matter who i told nobody would listen, and those who did wouldn't believe me. ~because of that last story i was forever stuck in special ed. in fact i still am... in another school, i was getting bullied... i didn't care, in fact i laughed at everything he said at me, i can laugh at myself because i don't care about myself, only others... however i would throw something back at him but it wasn't anything bad, just redirecting his insult at himself, often he wouldn't like that and we would end up in a brawl... i would sit there and let him punch me yawning while doing school work (while slightly chuckling in my head) it didn't hurt me, he wasn't weak either, but i refused to fight him... This time they are the one that got in trouble, however i still wouldn't recommend this unless you know your pain limits and what hurts. ~at the same school there was another bully, what i did with him is he would bully everyone, however he was a good kid who just wanted to seem tough so he himself wouldn't be picked on, well one day while on a van home, i saw him walking around, and enter his house, he lived just a little up the road from me to. the next day after school i went up the massive hill we lived on up the road about a 1/2-1 mile and stopped him before he arrived home fully... he then asked me "do you want to join my gang" i knew right away this would be a way to get close to him, and help him... he told me the way to join the gang would be to fight with 2 of his members, and then him... i agreed... i let him beat me (because he was a sore loser... otherwise i would've tried to win...) and joined his little gang, it was a week before we were full friends... i then talked to him a bunch and started slowly weening him into being a better person, and it was a huge success to... he hadn't bullied again for weeks... and he kept being a better person... sadly i moved away a couple months later... so i cant say for sure if it stuck or if he changed back when i left... ~another example of the time i found myself bulling... was when i was in 2nd grade again... i just wanted a friend... i asked someone if they wanted to be friends they would say no... etc etc... and he kept saying yes then no then yes throughout the year, and at a point during recess i would once again go berserk and try to kill him... and somehow we would still get along and while the teacher was teaching we would hide in various places throughout the classroom and play with various toys the teacher had in the class... somehow the teacher never noticed us missing or found where we were... we would just sit there for a long time, sometimes till the day ended... and she still didnt notice we were gone. this last story was very hard to say... because ive always felt really guily about this and dont like to tell the story, because when i tell some people some of the things ive done in my life they fear me... After reading all of that... you probably know why i nicknamed myself the hulk.
