Can someone please help me with a me with a derivative question???

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

what is the question

OpenStudy (lisa123):

The position of an object at time t is given by s(t) = -8 - 9t. Find the instantaneous velocity at t = 1 by finding the derivative.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so can you find the 1st derivative...?

OpenStudy (lisa123):

I think its s(t)=-9

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

close s'(t) = -9 which means the instantaneous velocity is a constant... so that means at t = 1 s'(1) = -9

OpenStudy (lisa123):

so its just s'(1)= -9?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

that's it... the constant -9 just means that for any t value, the velocity will be -9 hope it makes sense

OpenStudy (lisa123):

Yes it does! Thanks @campbell_st
