@amistre64

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

How do you tell the difference between arithmetic and geometric series?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the difference between arithmatic and geometric sequences is really the difference between adding and multiplying ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an arithemetic has a common difference, a geometric has a common ratio

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Okay, so arithmetic is just adding the same amount every time and geometric is multiplying by the same amount?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ex. 2, 4, 6, 8... = arithemetic 2,4,8,16= geometric

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

What about sequences? Isn't sequences adding everything in the sequence?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in rule form it looks like an = kn gn = k^n

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a sequence is a list, and itemized list a series is the sum of the terms in the list

OpenStudy (amistre64):

arth sequnce: 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 arth series: 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Okay, that makes sense Thanks :)

youre welcome
