First of all, the association is negative because the values for the set of data are positive, although they are going in a downward, decreasing trend. Now, it is either linear or nonlinear. To determine that, “picture” a graph by determine the pattern of the sequence: 320-40=280 280-40=240 240-40=200 200-40=160 160-40=120 120-40=80 80-40=40 40-40=0 The pattern is “-40” from the previous term to the next, so since this is a continuous pattern, this sort of “pattern” can be placed on a graph in a linear direction (continuous at the same rate, forming a single line, not scattered). Therefore, it is linear. So, the data has a negative linear association.
