find the slope

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Image requires logon. Describe the question and show us your best solution.

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

In the second quadrant it is -3,3 and in the fourth quadrant it is 1,-5

Nnesha (nnesha):

what is the formula to find slope ?

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

rise/run

Nnesha (nnesha):

slope = rise / run so how would you find rise/run ?

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

rise is 8 and run is 4 correct?

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

wait

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

8 and -4?

Nnesha (nnesha):

and how did you get that ?? :-)

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

i counted up 8, until i was on the same line as -3,3 and then i went back 4 to get to -3,3.

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay yes that's right now right in fraction form rise over run

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

8/-4?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes simplify

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

so -2

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep right

OpenStudy (cheyennecoffelt):

thank you :D

Nnesha (nnesha):

if line is decreasing = negative slope line increasing = positive slope

Nnesha (nnesha):

np :-)
