help plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold up i have to save it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first try to break down the middle

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

Another way which may be easier....first find area of this: |dw:1430523893944:dw|

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

|dw:1430523930658:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know the formula for this shape.

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

which shape? trapezoid or triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trapezoid

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

here u go :) https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/trapezoid.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand what a b or h is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you add up the number of squares in the shape?

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

no, a, b and h are dimensions of a trapezoid respectively. well if u don't want to use the area formula, then yes, u can add up the no. of squares inside.

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

|dw:1430525074239:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 27

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

did u calculate or count? 27 is slightly off by my calculation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

count

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

yes, its off cuz' its difficult to count those less than half squares... wuld u like to try using the formula? i will help....look at the pic n see if u know what a, b and h are in this case

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how you find out what a b and h are

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

|dw:1430525585283:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b=8 a=6 h=10

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

if u dont mind, count again plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aw man okay

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

i count b=9...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait according to your site, a=b and b=a, you have h right though. a=6 b=5 h=3 this time i just counted the whole squares. I didn't count the squares with a bit of the square missing. I hope you understand what I am saying. wait a minute your including the trangle, thats why okay. im not including the triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay let me do it your way hold up

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

counting the square will be difficult....much easier to calculate by finding out what a, b, h are....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=9 b=6 h=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i included the triangle, is this right?

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

yes - first include it then subtract the triangle area out to get the right ans :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 37.5

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

wait wait wait back up....wuld u like to try using the formula to calculate the area; instead of counting boxes? plz?

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

u will always be off a lil because of the less than half squares if u count :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i didnt count the boxes though, its a+b/2*h right? therfore being (9+6)/2*5=37.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay tell me, what am i doing wrong??

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

:) ALRIGHT, Norma! ur b is off by one...so the area should be ((9+7)/2)*5=40

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

except for missing 1 on one side, ur work was perfect :P

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

now all u need is to find triangle area n subtract that from 40; that will be ur ans. good luck!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are of a triable is 1/2 b*h, right?

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 7.5 for the area of a triangle, and when i subtract 7.5 from 40 i get 32.5.

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

show whats b and h for triangle plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b=5 h=3

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

h...try count again plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, maybe its only four
