Hmm (I'm gonna use dogs as examples o.o). I would say a good reason would be you can produce breeds that are stronger and have the better traits of their parents. Ex you can breed pits and mastiffs to get a stronger war type dog or a chihuahua and Pomeranian to get a lap dog.

A bad reason would be people can go overboard breeding dogs with birth defects and behavioral issues.
And other bad reason is people can go overboard in cross breeding ex breeding a female chihuahua with a male st. Bernard can cause many problems for the little dog to carry such a big dog's puppy's



I'd search more into those if it's for a paper but that should get you started off pretty well.

the reasons dont have to be long. I want short reasons :)

okay so a good reason: you can "upgrade" the animal (stronger,faster,smaller,etc)
Bad reason: animal can be born with bodily and or behavioral defects if cross-bred incorrectly
and Bad reason it can kill certain animals to bear other animal's offspring
