Research Questions: For female patients of a medical practice, was there a difference in mean scores of satisfaction with their doctor and satisfaction with their life? For male patients of a medical practice, was there a difference in mean scores of satisfaction with their doctor and satisfaction with their life? Anyone knows how to get the minitab output of this question??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you already have the file? and the program to run minitab stuff?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have data and i want to know how to draw it from minitab

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help to get minitab output from these data

OpenStudy (amistre64):

have you used the mini tab before?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm learning now

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ive never used it so the best i could do is follow a manual. we want to define some variables and have it compute a line of best fit right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or some statistical output that tells us about the data

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope , it's not finding the best fit

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ok, then tell me what your thoughts are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its box plot and histogram

OpenStudy (amistre64):

pg 55 thru 57 http://bcs.whfreeman.com/ips4e/supplements/Minitab/man1-6.pdf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, select score of satisfaction with their life for samples and sex for subscripts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this seems like the old version

OpenStudy (amistre64):

old versions and new versions differ very little in most programs. what version do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

minitab 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think is the latest version

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyway, thx for your help

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://www.minitab.com/uploadedFiles/Documents/getting-started/Minitab17_GettingStarted-en.pdf but you probably already have a manual right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i dont have the program so i just cant dabble with it to see what i can do ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i can down the trial version

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm, i got the software from my uni

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Normally, we have one subscript and one sample to draw a box plot but this question has two samples and one subscript

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any minitab expert??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im still gonna play with it, got a 30 day free trial lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

quick question .... how do we get it to read the patients file?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

got it, it was called a worksheet ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya open the file with minitab

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sex, 1 male 2 female?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know hypothesis test?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to construct a hypothesis test to answer the research question

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well ive managed to get 2 histograms to pop up, sex=1 and sex=2 based on column 2 frequencies.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i can do some basic hypot tests yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry but that looks weird

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the shape should looks like approximately normal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

appreciate a lot

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, the stem leaf outline for sex=1, suggests a 2 peak historgram as well. 2 678999 3 123334466777899 <--- peak 1 4 01224557 5 1233444556778899 6 0000001111233345556677888999 <-- peak 2 7 0014 8 011129 9 13

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you want to use for intervals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

95

OpenStudy (anonymous):

95 confidence interval

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i was talking about histogram class intervals :) not hypot test at the moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't learn about this O.O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the shape is too skewed

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the shape is bimodal, its what the data gives us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually, i have to draw the output according to the type of the hypothesis test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and this is a two sample t-test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are 8 different hypothesis tests

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From the minitab, press Stat> basic statistics> 2 sample t-test

OpenStudy (amistre64):

OpenStudy (amistre64):

like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but there are two samples which are the score of satisfaction with their life and doctor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and sex is the subscript

OpenStudy (amistre64):

are we comparing the means of satlife_male with satdr_male? because i just did satdr_male with satdr_female ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mean of satlife and satdr between male and female

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats confused

OpenStudy (amistre64):

let me see if i understand that: combine satdr_male with satlife_male as 1 sample and the other sample is the combination of the female stuff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think like that as well , if thats the case i need to draw many histogram and box plot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

histogram is use to do the assumption for normality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

box plot use to determine the spread

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i recall something about mean(a+b) = mean(a) + mean(b) and variances of a combined sample add as well.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if the sets are independant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sats life and sat dr are independent?? do you think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do i need to draw like box plot of satdr for male and female and sat life for male and female

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i think they are, but om not an expert

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i think i will ask my tutor :) thx for helping

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck, my eyes are getting heavy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)
