if x represents the variable, it basically means that x would represent the original amount of money she had in her account BEFORE she took out money. If x = original amount of money... And we took OUT $135 from her account, we are left with $650 in the account. Therefore since x (original amount) - $135 = $650 To find x (original amount, we add $135 to both sides... So, x = $135 + $600 = ?
