HELP ASAP!!!!! FAN+MEDAL!!!!!! The table shows the rainfall, in inches, in the month of July for the years 2006 through 2011. http://gyazo.com/2b723acafc1ccfe18e59b07260a34c71 http://gyazo.com/641a1d2384986924536db58cfbbbf166 A)in what way could the graph be misleading? B) how could you redraw the graph so that it is less misleading?

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, tell me your thoughts while i load up the pics ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i think it is misleading because it does not start at 0 or have that little indent that replaces 0 (idk what its called i forgot)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, starting at 0 may not always be possible, after all, 2011 is a long way from 0 my thought is that the scale of each side is not equal. notice the distance between 2006 and 2007, this measures 1 unit now notice that 3.8 to 4.6 isnt even 1 unit. |dw:1430602441370:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do we alter when we .... use this sort of ratio of scales?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get it... ;/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1430602516889:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

increases and decreases visually look greater than they would normally indicate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soo... the graph is misleading because the x and the y axis are not equal??? idk

OpenStudy (amistre64):

they do not share the same scale, right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope also i think that the graph is misleading because the spaces between the years are too long and it makes the graph longer i think that they should make the spaces between the years smaller.... is this correct??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i just realized something... the 2006 and the 3.8 are on the same line...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh i probably sound so stupid rn.. lol this is confusing... ;/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the spacing between values is the idea, but its not that the years are too long, its that the inches are too short, a 1:1 ratio tends to be best as far is "nonmisleading" visually goes.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this is my take on it, not saying how correct it is tho :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so... A) The graph is misleading because of the spacing between values. ? B) I could redraw the graph so that it is less misleading by making the spaces shorter. ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

misleading due to the different scale between the axises less misleading by compressing the y axis for a 1inch:1year ratio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)
