if v=(-5,-3), -5||v||^2 is this saying find the magnitude, and then square it and multiply it by -5?

yes i would assume it meant find -5||v||^2
yup
so sqrt(-5)^2+(-3)^2=sqrt34
so it would be just 34 * -5?
