1. The isotope, Carbon-14 emits beta radiation and has a half live of 5730 years. How long will it take for the amount of radiation this gives off to drop by a factor of 4?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

do you understand what 'half-life' means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dividing by two?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

no it is the time taken for the amount of radiation to fall to half its initial value so after 1 half life it will have half its original the amount left after 1 half life takes the SAME time to decau to half ITS amount so how much of the original is left after 2 half life periods?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11,460

OpenStudy (jtfan2000):

5730 / 2 = 2865
