This allows the artist to fly across an empty space. The flying trapeze act was created by Jules Leotard. He was the son of a gymnastics instructor. While at his father’s school, Leotard put a bar between two cables. From that moment, he had created the art of trapeze. He first performed his act in 1859 at the Cirque Napoleon. Leotard was able to do acrobatic tricks going from one trapeze to the next. People were so amazed by his act that he inspired the song "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze."
