there are 12 numbers, #6 is 86 #7 is 87 for the median, average those 2 numbers. you get 86.5 your figure shows a median at 86.5 so that is correct

then check if the highest number 94 is what is shown on the plot

no, we just look at the smallest and biggest number of the "middle 6 numbers" 4,74,83, 83,83,86, 87,90,92, 93,93,94 start end those are for the start and end of the "box" does the box start at 83 does it end at 92 in your plot ?

right. the box starts at 83 but it does not end at 92. that means its upper quartile is wrong

they call the start of the box the "lower quartile" and the end of the box the "upper quartile"
