Recent Attacks on OpenStudy
Dear OpenStudiers, It appears we have suffered DDoS attacks - which are attempts to interrupt/diminish/destroy OpenStudy. We are looking into it. For legal reasons, we can not say more because we do not want to jump to any conclusions. These attacks inconvenience you our community, and seriously impact our revenues - as you can imagine. They are a criminal offense - make no mistake about it. It is like stealing money from OpenStudy. The government even considers this internet terrorism. Several members of the community have come forth to help us in our investigation. We thank you for that. Please remain vigilant and if you have reason to suspect anything or can help prevent future attacks, please reach out to a moderator or one of us immediately. Thank you. Preetha, CEO
Thanks you for thanking us for our effort in the investigation preetha! and i hope we can stop these attacks
OS just got back for me..
i have no response for this. really i cant say anything xD either way, thank you Miss Ram.
I have to agree with Preetha about this. This is a very serious thing. Whoever is doing it should stop immediately. You are only getting yourself into a bigger mess than you want to be in. OpenStudy will only get back up on its feet and will always remain strong and continue to provide the help that only OpenStudy can provide to students all over the world. And some advice to the troublemakers behind all of this – Stop immediately, and apologize for the inconvenience your actions has caused everyone. The sooner you stop and apologize the less the consequences can be. I’m not saying that there will not be any consequences at all, that all depends on the course of path that Preetha and Inquus want to take. But, it is better to stop now. The longer you continue the more graver the consequences can be. Ask yourself, is it really worth it to attack a site that is meant to help thousands of people every day and pay heavy consequences for your actions?
Our community is OpenStudy's strength. And OpenStudy's strength is in our community.
Wait so people are trying to hack Open Study?
I believe so. Some users were affected.
DDoS isn't exactly hacking, it's just Distributed Denial of Service. So basically people or someone is trying to prevent anyone from accessing OS. I'm not sure how long ago this was but if it happened, then for some time, you may have not been able to use OS until the service was restored.
Folks, meet Saso, an old-timer and one of our first and most loyal users. He will forever be in the OpenStudy Hall of Fame.
Hi @sasogeek, nice to meet chu! :3
Oh dear Lord. I'm truly honored :)
Oh is that where the OWL be back came from? Or was that you trying to fix it?
OH! and HELLO! :)
Sassy <33 we talked earlier :)
Hello :)
hi @sasogeek I don't know you at all :/
That's sad, probably the DDoS kept me out of OS for a while. nice to meet you @shifuyanli :) lol
:D
The Owl Be Back is when OpenStudy takes down their site to patch up the coding. What just happened 10 minutes ago wasn't a ddos attack.
hey saso :) thanks for letting us know Preetha :)
OHHHHH okay I got you.
Wait a sec.... "owl be back" isn't open study updating?? It's someone else messing around?!?!
No it is Open Study updating Dan...pay attention! lol XD
Owl Be Back is OpenStudy updating something.

@AdozenBABYdogs
Thank you Omar for giving the hackers tips. T_T
