OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

What is the link between genes and proteins?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

Is the link just that genes code for the proteins that are responsible for the regulation of the cell cycle and mitosis in healthy cells AND genes are hereditary units that control the production of polypeptides that make up the proteins in the cell? ? :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

so theeeen... if there is a malfunction in a particular gene, it may result in the inability of the cells to function properly and theeeeeen it may lead to disease?

OpenStudy (austindeboe18):

Butterflydreamer you are correct on all that

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

really? :) Thanks!

OpenStudy (somy):

that depends on 'where' the gene was is sort of malfunctioning

OpenStudy (austindeboe18):

no problem

OpenStudy (somy):

but i wouldnt prefer 'malfunctioning' to describe this situation gene can be mutated can be silenced or overexpressed

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

ohh okay. Thaaaanks Somy ^_^!

OpenStudy (somy):

gene is just sort of a 'composition' or instruction protein is actual product that does the job

OpenStudy (somy):

no problem :)
