The areas of two similar rectangles are 200 square feet and 512 square feet. What scale factor applied to the smaller rectangle will give the larger rectangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's call the scale factor k. The area of a rectangle is length times width. A_small = lw Multiplying each side of the small rectangle by k will give the larger rectangle, so A_large = (kl)(kw) A_large = k²(lw) A_large = k²(A_small)
