Why can psychologists not diagnose personality/mood disorders until the patient is 18? I understand there is a potential of growing out of any sort of symptoms. But, I have had prolonged symptoms my entire teen years and all of my doctors say I have all the symptoms but that they can't give me a diagnosis.

Where do you live, I live in Ga and that is not the case. I got diagnosed with personality/mood disorder at 14.

I live in MI, USA and it can't have anything to do with legality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the personality is still developing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think after 17 years that a personality would be fairly well developed or that doctors could never diagnose anyone with a personality disorder because everyones personality is constantly in a state of development.

Personally I think your doctors shouldn't be doctors. Like I said, It takes a person with mental issues them selves to understand another one with mental disorders. Pweez don't get offended by my use of the word mental.

Lolz, today is my 17th Birthday. Happy Birthday to me!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Happy Birthday! And no, I'm not offended at all. :) I'm upset about it too but thanks for your help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anytime :)

Because teenagers have moodswings and are overdramatic

Probably has something to do with being a minor.
