you have to crossmultiply and solve the equation

This is a proportion...so we will cross multiply
1/7 = 3/4x - 1
(7)(3) = (1)(4x - 1)
21 = 4x - 1 --- add 1
22 = 4x
22/4 = x
reduces to 11/4
