PLEASE HELP SOMEONE
Mixtures occur when two or more materials are combined and each material keeps its own properties. All of the following are mixtures EXCEPT A) Salad B) Pizza C) Water D) Chocolate milk 19) Which of these is not considered a pure substance? A) An atom B) A mixture C) An element D) A compound
okay
1st one: what do you think?
B
no...Water is NOT a mixture. All of the other answers are mixed with something (chocolate with milk, different vegetables in salad, cheese and dough for pizza). So the answer is...?
So C is the answer
yes because water is not a mixture.
no.2
Ok thanks
what do you think?
For that one i think A
I think you are right but let me see
Alright
OKAY. look at the periodic table of elements. That entire table is full of elements. All of those substances are elements. Each one of those elements is also an atom. For example, Oxygen is an element. But one of oxygen is one atom of oxygen. A molecule is a combination of 2 or more different atoms or 2 or more different elements. CO2 is a molecule with 1 atom of Carbon and 2 atoms of Oxygen. A pure substance is a substance that cannot be broken down through physical changes OR that cannot be broken down any further in general. Therefore, all elements and compounds are pure substances. Compounds are just two or more pure substances that are chemically bonded. Compounds CAN be broken down CHEMICALLY NOT PHYSICALLY. This is why they are pure substances. A mixture is just two or more pure substances that are PHYSICALLY combined and CAN be broken down by physical change. For example salt water is a mixture. the salt and the water are not chemically bonded because u can clearly tell there's salt and water present. and if you heat the water, u can get the salt and water separated. YES, heating, dissolving, and melting are all examples of PHYSICAL changes. Mixtures can be broken down to two other categories. Homogeneous and Heterogeneous. Homo G means that the substances are evenly distributed and they seem to be one in the same. Salt water is a homo G mixture because the salt and the water are there. You DO NOT see them in layers but you do see them together as if they were one in the same. Air, yes the air you breathe is a Homo G mixture. The air is a combination of different gasses. All alloys (metals on the periodic table) are Homo G. Hetero G means that the mixture is NOT evenly distributed. In other words you can see the different substances occupy their own space in the container and act like they're different. A salad is a hetero G mixture because you can clearly see the lettuce occupy different spaces in the plate than the tomatoes or the ranch. I know this is a lot to take in but its easier to remember if you do some practice quizzes.
I read some of it, thank you so much for taking time to write this!
