@CGGURUMANJUNATH

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

you need two numbers that both add to make 1 and multiply to make -12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

This means the numbers are 1 apart and multiply to 12

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

Can you think of any?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what I am struggling on but -1 times 12=-12

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

You can use 3 and 4

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

-3 times 4 is -12 -4 times 3 is -12 you need to work out which should be the negative

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

Because they add to make 1 (not -1), the smaller of the two will be the negative one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the answer will be (x-3)(x+4) I think

OpenStudy (megankeeping):

Yes, you can always multiply out the brackets again to check your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) @MeganKeeping
