I just did a project on it. It's the first one, populations change over time in response to changes in the environment. Survival of the fittest is the general idea of evolution, and that a species is constantly adapting. For example, Darwin's birds evolved to have shorter beaks (used to eat small nuts) in response to another bird species coming and eating all the big nuts.
