What was the primary goal of NATO? provide jobs and training in the post-WWII era create a military alliance with members of the Warsaw Pact prevent the spread of communism in Eastern Europe provide mutual defense among member nations if attacked

Either C/D but i believe the answer is C
It was D, NATO, while running around as an opposition to Russia, was also meant to defend those who couldn't help themselves, hence the mutual defense idea.
At least, that's what I think.
That is what I was thinking too.
I agree with Surana. After WW2, the Marshall Plan was more along the lines of what would help provide jobs in Western Europe by helping to rebuild. It also certainly wasn't to ally with the Warsaw Pact which was the communist bloc's response to NATO. It also wasn't necessarily to stop the spread of communism in Eastern Europe -- that already happened thanks to the USSR's sphere of influence. So the only answer that makes sense is the one Surana points out: (D).
