Openstudy has had several updates during you left :)
Owl bucks are (is) a new currency that openstudy has created. As you see when you slide your mouse by the owlbucks, that you can buy owlbucks with real money. What these are used for are asking qualifes helpers (included in the new update) for extra special work. I believe this is an awesome system :)

I just made a post about the Owl Competition. I think everyone from the Competition will receive 10 Owlbucks(since that's the minimum amount you can give) and you'll probably get 20, since 2 of yours got in.

Owlbucks is fairly recent, it finally came up after a few months of delay..and the Emporium just released yesterday, but there are only 2 things you can buy currently.
