All chose all of them because: Byzantium (later to be called Constantinople) was chosen by Constantine because of its proximity to where the action was in both trade and war. The city was perfect for his needs in defending the East thanks to access to both the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, made it easier to defend the empire because the capital was at at a crossroads where soldiers and orders could be quickly sent out, was the gateway for trade between Europe and Asia, and offered opportunities for controlling traffic to and from Europe -- particularly when it came to trade.
